Saturday 19 April Passover (Pesach) at Kastelsvej 60

15:00 - 17:00 SHPROG, Parashah reading group meets at Kastelsvej 60

17.00  Pesach Seder Celebration led by student rabbi Sandra Kviat. Please sign up in advance at shirhatzafon@mail.dk . Space is limited!

As you can see, this year’s Passover celebration begins at 5 PM. We have chosen the early time to accommodate families, including small children.

The prices are unchanged from last year: for Shir Hatzafon members - 295 kr/adult and 150kr/child under 14 and for guests - 395 kr/adult and 225 kr/child under 14. The price includes the Seder meal with dessert, matzoh and Kiddush wine, cold and warm beverages. The menu comprises vegetarian dishes plus fish and meat – the latter from Copenhagen Kosher. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own wine.

Seats are allocated strictly on a first come first serve basis. Booking can ONLY take place via prepayment to our giro account 60040737 or to Danske Bank reg.nr. 9570, kontonr. 60040737. Please remember to write the names of the individuals covered by your payment. For more details, please visit www.shirhatzafon.dk.

It is also a pleasure to announce that student rabbi Sandra Kviat will be our ‘master of ceremonies’ to lead us through and explain the meaning of the traditions of Passover, a wonderful day in the Jewish calendar. We will also have a professional singer, a friend of our congregation, to support and lead Sandra and all of us with the musical part of the evening.

We look forward to sharing our Pesach celebration with you.

PS: The Passover Seder is the symbol laden story of the liberation of the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt and their struggle to become free individuals. Progressive and Liberal Jewish communities in many places around the globe have embarked on a practice to support needy people on this very day in order to commemorate the hardship experienced when the Jews were not a free people. We have decided to follow this noble idea, and so we ask you kindly to bring shopping bags with groceries (non perishable dry goods) and articles for personal hygiene (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.) to our Seder. Shir Hatzafon will arrange for the distribution to needy people. We thank you in advance for your generosity.

GENERAL INFORMATION

·         Kastelsvej 60, Copenhagen Ø: We meet in the large red building past the green fence at the intersection of Kastelsvej and Asger Holmsvej. The building houses the Center for tegnsprog og tegnstøttet kommunikation.

·         Shir Hatzafon / PJD dinners & Kiddush after services are pot-luck buffets in which everyone brings some vegetarian food to share. The Board and the volunteers who arrange the Kiddush provide challah, wine, beverages and tableware.

We invite members and guests alike to join us. No need to call beforehand, just show up and you will be warmly welcomed.

·         Worship Services

Shir Hatzafon is a Progressive liberal congregation. Our religious services for Shabbat and Holidays blend traditional and liberal expressions of Jewish ritual and thought that encompass the beauty of both ancient and contemporary music and reaffirm our spiritual heritage as expressed in the Hebrew language. Traditional prayers, songs and modern readings are designed for accessibility of content in English, Hebrew, and transliterated Hebrew, with explanatory notes in Danish as needed.

Our services are characterized by a joyously informal, full participation throughout the congregation.

·         Kabbalat Shabbat

Kabbalat Shabbat is held on the first full-weekend Friday of every month. This abbreviated service includes lighting the Shabbat candles and blessings (brakhot) over the wine and bread. Shir Hatzafon
’s famous pot-luck Sabbath dinner follows for a warm and congenial social evening.

·         Shabbat Morning Services

The Shabbat morning service includes Kiddush and is followed by a pot-luck buffet provided by the participants. It is held on those weekends with Kabbalat Shabbat Services.
